Veterans Parade Across Downtown Columbia

Today many cities across Mid-Missouri are observing Veterans Day. Columbia is celebrating the service of men and women in the armed forces.

Bag pipes, drums, and marching orders rang out through the streets of downtown Columbia this morning. The Boone County Fire Protection District Pipes & Drums band led the city’s annual Veterans Day parade up 8th street from the MU Columns to the Boone County Courthouse. After the parade, the city welcomed retired Major General Arnold Fields as its guest of honor. In a speech, Fields commended U.S. soldiers for honoring a higher calling.

“They were not only upholding and fighting for the dignity and respect of this nation from which they came, but for the dignity and respect of all humanity,” said Fields.

The event also featured a 3 shot salute, the playing of taps, and a performance from MU’s ROTC Joint Pershing Riffle Team.
