The list of GOP candidates for Missouri's gubernatorial election continues to grow as John Brunner announced his candidacy yesterday via a video message posted on his campaign website.

Marshall Griffin and Jo Mannies have the story.

Another Republican is jumping into next year’s race for Missouri governor.

Bob Dixon currently represents Springfield and parts of Green County in the Missouri Senate, having first been elected to the 30th District seat in 2010 and re-elected last year. Before that he served four terms in the Missouri House.

Two state senators proposed bills to reduce the sentencing for juveniles convicted of first-degree murder on Tuesday.

Under the current law, the sentence is life in prison without parole for all convicted persons under the age of 18. Individuals between the ages of 16 and 18 could also be sentenced to death.

The Supreme Court ruled both of these sentences as unconstitutional in separate cases. Sen. Bob Dixon, R-Springfield, and Sen. Joseph Keaveny, D-St. Louis, proposed bills to reduce these sentences.

Nearly a full month of hearings wrapped up Monday into a Missouri Senate bill that would revise the state’s criminal code, but it may already be too late to get the bill to the Governor’s desk this year.
