In a wide-ranging interview this morning for KBIA's Intersection, retiring University of Missouri Chancellor Brady Deaton and Provost Brian Foster reflected on their tenures at the university, noting its continued growth in spite of the economic slowdown and successful recruitment of out-of-state students.

University of Missouri Provost, Brian Foster, announced Friday David Rosenbaum as director of the University of Missouri Press.  Rosenbaum is currently the director of product development and project management for the American Heart Association. 

Rosenbaum will start on November 1st.  He replaces Jane Lago, former managing editor at the press, who came out of retirement to serve as interim director in October 2012.

When you talk with MU Provost Brian Foster about his job, this is how he describes it.

“I’m sort of at 40,000 foot level trying to put all the pieces together," he said. "The University of Missouri is a very complicated organization, and to have all the different pieces aligned-the research, the instruction, enrollment management, economic development, clinical work -you know, you see what I mean?”

Leona Rubin, professor in the Department of Biomedical Sciences in the College of Veterinary Medicine, has been named interim dean of the MU Graduate School.

Nearly 500 universities across the country, including MU, have signed on to an initiative to increase the number of college graduates in the United States by 2025.

Peter McPherson is the CEO of the Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities, one of the organizations involved with an initiative to ensure that 60 percent of adults have a college degree by 2025. He says schools, including MU, were involved in determining the goals of the initiative.

The second meeting discussing MU’s  budget took place Wednesday where Director of Budget Tim Rooney led an updated presentation on the university’s financial situation for the coming year.

The MU Budget Office held an open meeting Tuesday to discuss the state of the university’s funds.
