City Manager Mike Matthes is proposing that the city ask voters to approve a property tax increase and to renew the Capital Improvement Sales Tax in order to fund Columbia police and fire departments. Matthes announced this when presenting the proposed 2015 fiscal year budget at a press conference Friday morning.
The city of Columbia is reportedly in strong financial shape after McGladry, an assurance, tax and consulting firm from Kansas City, finished their audit. McGladry considers Columbia to be a “low risk auditee,” which simplifies the auditing process.
The Columbia City Council passed its budget for the 2013 fiscal year Monday night. Columbia City Manager Mike Matthes says one of the main focuses this year was to try to relieve the general fund by closing the gap between revenues and expenses by a million dollars.
