The state treasurer says the email claims recipients are owed millions of dollars through the National Association of Unclaimed Property Administrators. The email states an audit found the property. It seeks the recipient's name, email address and phone number.

Zweifel says his office does not charge to return unclaimed property and that anyone with questions about the legitimacy of an email should contact his office. He urged Missourians to forward suspicious emails to his office.

Mo. Treasurer Zweifel declines run for governor

KBIA

Missouri Treasurer Clint Zweifel is ruling out a run for governor in 2016.

Zweifel, a Democrat, is prohibited by term limits from seeking a third term as treasurer. He had been mentioned along with Democratic Attorney General Chris Koster as a potential successor to Democratic Governor Jay Nixon.

But Zweifel campaign manager Mike Pridmore said Monday that Zweifel will not run for governor in 2016. He cited Zweifel's desire to spend time with his teenage daughters as the primary reason to forgo a gubernatorial campaign.

Mo. offers faster loans for farmers in drought

Missouri Treasurer Clint Zweifel
Office of Treasurer

Farmers suffering from this summer's dry, hot weather could get some help through the state treasurer's office.

Treasurer Clint Zweifel says he is offering emergency 24-hour approvals of low-interest loans through the Missouri Linked Deposit Program because of the drought conditions.

Under the program, the state deposits money at low rates in banks, which in turn can supply low-interest loans to farmers or businesses. Zweifel says it normally takes about 10 days to approve a deposit for a loan, but that can be speeded up in emergencies.
