Edward Snowden, contraception and health care were all topics brought up in Columbia College’s annual Ethics in Society lecture. This year’s lecture, called “The Supreme Court and Its Impact on You," was delivered Wednesday by veteran NPR correspondent, Nina Totenberg.
Columbia College has named the two finalists in its search for its new President. One of them will fill the position that was vacated when Dr. Gerald Brouder retired in July after leading the college for 18 years.
The finalists are Scott Dalrymple – the Dean of the School of Liberal Arts at Excelsior College in Albany New York and Randall Hanna, Chancellor of the Florida College System, which comprises 28 community and state colleges in Florida.
Michael Kateman is executive director of alumni relations at Columbia College and is a member of the search committee that chose the finalists.
The dog days of summer are over for many students in the area, and will be ending quickly for many more. The fall semesters at the University of Missouri, Stephens College and Columbia College all begin on Monday.
All students in Columbia Public Schools go back tomorrow, except for kindergarteners, who get a few more days of summer and start school this Thursday.
Thursday also marks the start date for Jefferson City Public Schools.
Moberly students return to school this Wednesday.
Students in Fulton and Kirksville started last week.
Columbia College has announced it is making available to students a music major, after a hiatus of almost 30 years. Nollie Moore, a music instructor at the college, said he created a curriculum that will focus on choral music and piano instruction. He said he also hopes to expand to instrumental music in the future.
Members of Columbia College’s presidential search committee say the college has selected the Washington D.C.-based recruiters Academic Search to help find Columbia College's next president – and the committee is aiming to introduce candidates by this Fall.
The former president of Ireland, Mary Robinson, is targeting youth specifically to find and act on low-carbon solutions to reverse climate injustice and secure a livable future world. Mary Robinson is also the former United Nations Commissioner for Human Rights.
Robinson spoke last night as part of a Columbia College lecture series titled, “Making Human Rights the Compass for All Ethical Globalization.”
Columbia College has named current Executive Vice President and Dean for Academic Affairs Terry Smith as its interim president. According to a press release today, when Dr. Gerald Brouder retires as President in August of this year, Smith will take over. The college has a goal of having a new president named by July 2014.
