Columbia violent crime task force discusses criminal risk factors

The Mayor’s task force convened Wednesday evening to discuss a new data based approach plan to further solve the violent crime issue in Columbia.

Task force member Dan Hanneken presented a list of risk factors called Criminogenic Need. This list addressed all of the risk factors that contribute to the likelihood of someone committing a violent crime. From his research, Hanneken explained a list of top eight risk factors.

Crime task force seeks research and data on violence

Members of the Columbia Mayor’s Taskforce on Community Violence have agreed on a plan to find out more about tackling violence in the city. 

The task force was created in response to a number of high-profile crimes in Columbia over the summer.  Members will ask Columbia police to come to their next meeting in two weeks to outline the number of shots fired incidents in the city over the past two years.

Columbia City Council approves mayor's plan to form crime taskforce

  The Columbia City Council approved a proposal from Mayor Bob McDavid to create a taskforce to look at youth crimes in the city by a vote of six in favor to none against. Councilmember Ian Thomas did not attend the meeting.
