City of Columbia unveils new design for Columbia Transit

A bus with a new logo advertising COMO Connect was revealed to the public Tuesday afternoon in Columbia, Mo. The new logo was designed by students from Stephens College.

The city of Columbia revealed the rebranding and renaming of Columbia's public transportation system as "COMO Connect" in a ribbon cutting ceremony Tuesday afternoon.

Downtown Columbia parking rates to increase

This fall, the cost of parking in downtown Columbia will increase -- but access to public transit will as well.

Columbia City Council members last night amended the city code to raise parking rates for both unmetered off street facilities and metered parking in the MU campus area. The amendment will go into effect October 1. 

Meter prices on campus will increase from 75 cents per hour to $1 per hour. Parking pass prices will go up $10 a month but parking permit consumers will have an unlimited bus pass included in their monthly rate.

Columbia Transit and Columbia/Boone County Public Health and Human Services are calling on residents to provide input for possible changes to the city’s public transportation system.

Columbians are invited to participate in an online survey regarding their transit use, desired changes and funding possibilities. All residents are encouraged to take the survey regardless of if or how often they use public transportation.

Columbia City Council examines traffic congestion

Columbia Mayor Bob McDavid said the student tradition of driving to and from school campuses has to change; transportation was a key issue at Monday night's Columbia City Council meeting.

Council members discussed transportation options and solutions to increasing transportation problems created by Columbia's growing student population.

McDavid compared Columbia to other college towns in the Midwest like Ames, Iowa and the Champagne-Urbana area of Illinois, saying that those cities succeeded in creating mass transit instead of parking garages nearly 30 years ago.

Columbia FastCAT runs fewer hours during academic breaks

The FastCAT express route will run on a condensed schedule during the upcoming academic breaks for University of Missouri and Stephens college. The shorter schedule starts this Friday, Nov. 16. Regular operations will resume Monday, Nov. 26. Marketing specialist for Columbia Transit Christa Holtzclaw explains the altered route will mirror all other regular Columbia transit routes.

New bus route to run between MU, downtown Columbia

The city of Columbia announced Thursday the addition of a new city bus route that will directly connect the University of Missouri and downtown Columbia.  Mayor Bob McDavid calls the plan FASTCAT –“CAT” being short for Campus Access Transit. The new route will bypass Wabash station creating a new central hub.
