Mo. sees little change in unemployment in February

Missouri's unemployment rate inched up slightly in February although the state also posted gains in the number of jobs.

Figures released Tuesday by the state Department of Economic Development show Missouri's unemployment rate was 6.7 percent last month, up one-tenth of a percentage point from January.

Seasonally adjusted, nonfarm payroll rose by 3,900 jobs in February, with gains in the construction industry offset partially by loses in food services.

According to the latest jobs report from the state [pdf], the number of jobs created in Missouri is going up, and the unemployment rate is at its lowest in nearly four years. Some of the greatest growth was in the construction industry.

Proposed ground rules aim to maintain Kirksville's historic character

The Kirksville Historic Preservation Commission is working to establish some ground rules for downtown construction to maintain Kirksville’s historic character.

The commission is conducting surveys of downtown properties with the hope of creating a “design and review” ordinance.

The commission wants to establish new guidelines for what buildings can and cannot be built in downtown Kirksville in order to preserve a cultural environment.
