A magnitude-7.3 earthquake struck Nepal on Tuesday, just over two weeks after a massive magnitude-7.8 quake killed more than 8,000 people.

The United States Geological Survey puts today's quake as close to the capital, Kathmandu, as the one two weeks ago.

 CNN's chief medical correspondent, Dr. Sanjay Gupta performed brain surgery on an 8-year-old girl while on assignment covering the 7.8-magnitude earthquake. In fact, CNN filmed the procedure. The University of Missouri Nepalese Student Association held a vigil Friday night to honor those who have died in the Nepal earthquake aftermath. A crowd of around 60 students and community members gathered in Speaker’s Circle on the MU campus to light candles forming the outline of Nepal and phrases like “Mizzou Loves Nepal” and #StayStrongNepal.


For people in Nepal, the earthquake that hit the country on Saturday was devastating. But for some Nepalis who are outside of the country, waiting to hear from their family was equally stressful. But some have found a way to turn their concerns into substantial relief for their home.

Nepal's devastating earthquake that hit Saturday is now blamed for at least 4,000 deaths. Reconstruction is estimated to cost billions. International aid efforts are underway, but aftershocks are rattling survivors' nerves and making the recovery even more challenging.

Rescue crews and aid groups are working to reach survivors — but their efforts are being hampered by the stricken areas' remote locations. Roads that are drivable are clogged with traffic.

Calif. Gov. Jerry Brown has made an emergency declaration after a strong 6.0-magnitude earthquake rocked northern California, causing dozens of injuries, damaged buildings and power outages. The quake struck at 3:20 a.m. PT, the U.S. Geological Survey says.


Sunday will mark the one-year anniversary of the massive earthquake and tsunami that hit coastal Japan. 

The early morning earthquake that rattled much of Southeast Missouri on Tuesday morning caused little damage. The 4.0 magnitude quake was centered near East Prairie, Missouri.
