My Life My Town: Finding challenges in Ashland

Jared Thomassen is a junior in Ashland always looking for new goals to achieve. He is an avid long distance runner and placed second in the Duathlon at the last Show Me State Games. If that wasn't enough, Jared takes on music as well. He's been in band since elementary school and is a part of Southern Boone County High School's competitive marching band. Producers Erin Dismeier and Naveen Mahadevan bring us this story, as part of KBIA and the Columbia Missourian’s My Life, My Town project.

Historic schoolhouse gets renovation through efforts of Chillicothe 4-H club

A 4-H Club and community members in Chillicothe, Missouri are celebrating the completed renovation project of a historic schoolhouse. This weekend the Liberty 4-H Club hosted an open house in the newly-renovated, 134-year-old Swain Schoolhouse.  

The Liberty 4-H Club hasn’t taken the deterioration of its clubhouse over the past few years sitting down.  Over the past three years, the club members and their community have worked to save the Swain Schoolhouse that’s been its home for generations:

MU, KU officials weigh in on future of rivalry

Missouri’s men’s basketball game against Kansas on Saturday was the 267th time the teams have played.  But it could be one of the last times the long time rivals will compete since MU is moving to the Southeastern Conference next year.  Opposing petitions have sprung up in Kansas and Missouri to either save or end the Border Showdown.

Central Missouri Humane Society selects new director

The Central Missouri Humane Society announced Kimberly Sherlaw as its new executive director Monday.  Since Dr. Alan Allert resigned from the post in October the No Kill Columbia Campaign has pushed CMHS to select a director who supported their No-Kill policy.
