Brunner contemplating Missouri gubernatorial campaign

John Brunner is contemplating a run for Missouri governor in 2016.

Republican former U.S. Senate candidate John Brunner says he is contemplating a run for Missouri governor in 2016.

Brunner told The Associated Press on Friday that he has received encouragement to run but doesn't plan to make a decision until after the 2014 elections.

His comments came several days after former U.S. attorney and Missouri House Speaker Catherine Hanaway announced her Republican candidacy for governor. Missouri Auditor Tom Schweich is another potential Republican candidate, but he first faces re-election this year.

Jefferson City and state government to renovate Missouri State Penitentiary

State Senator Mike Kehoe (center) and Gov. Jay Nixon (right) announced an agreement between Jefferson City and the State of Missouri to fund renovations of the historic Missouri State Penitentiary on Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2013. The landmark prison closed in September 2013 after an inspection revealed mold in public areas. The new project will evenly split costs up to $2,000,000 between the state and the city.
