Republican leaders set out key issues at Boone County Lincoln Days Banquet

U.S Senator Roy Blunt said as long as there is Republican House of Representatives there will be no more tax increases passed by Congress. The Senator from Missouri said spending caps will help ease the federal budget in the next 10 years.

Blunt made the remarks in Columbia Friday, at the annual Boone County Lincoln Days Banquet, where Blunt and Missourian Republican leaders set out some of the issues that might be key to their 2014 election campaigns.

Missouri House members have endorsed legislation requiring school districts to bolster policies against bullying.

A Missouri House Representative is pushing for new school bullying policies. Representative Sue Allen’s House Bill 134 was heard at a public hearing this morning by the Committee for Elementary and Secondary Education.

Missouri Legislature officially ends its 2012 session

Missouri's annual legislative session has officially come to a close.

Lawmakers stopped debating and passing legislation on May 18 in compliance with a constitutional deadline.

But the session officially ended Wednesday, when leaders of the House and Senate signed the bills that passed, delivered them to the governor and banged the gavel for the final time.

A total of 114 bills and proposed constitutional amendments passed the Legislature during its 2012 session.

Gov. Jay Nixon has 45 days to sign or veto legislation.

House and Senate budget negotiators debating how to fund veterans' homes

House and Senate budget negotiators remain at an impasse on what’s become the main barrier to reaching an agreement: finding a way to fund veterans’ homes.

The House this week passed legislation that would fund veterans homes with gaming revenues currently designated for early childhood programs, and replace it with money from a tobacco settlement.  The Senate has so far refused to take up the measure.  House Budget Chair Ryan Silvey accuses Senate President Pro-tem Rob Mayer of playing games:

Missouri senator tries to block prescription database

A Missouri senator who is a family physician says he'll try to block legislation authorizing a government database to track drug prescriptions unless it is put to a statewide vote.

Republican Sen. Rob Schaaf, of St. Joseph, Mo., began Thursday's debate on the prescription monitoring legislation by vowing to filibuster until he gets his way about a referendum.
