Columbia leaders consider curfew following spate of shootings

Columbia's police chief is calling for a teen curfew after a recent spate of shootings that has city leaders and many residents on edge. Chief Ken Burton says he will develop a formal proposal for City Council consideration within the next month. Burton spoke today at a City Hall news conference along with Columbia's mayor and five council members.

Report says Columbia Police Department environment is "approaching toxicity"

Columbia City Manager Mike Matthes has announced plans to implement 14 recommendations made in a report highly critical of the Columbia Police Department. The report outlines problems within CPD, saying the department's reputation in the community has been steadily dropping.

"The community has lowered the report card of the police department from a B to a D over the past six years," said City Manager Mike Matthes.

City conducts review of police department

The city of Columbia is spending $45,000 to conduct an outside review of its police department. This comes after a year in which the department has seen a host of issues, including the firing of officer Rob Sanders, as well as dueling local groups focusing on Chief Ken Burton.
