JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — Republicans are expected to hold on to their majorities in the Missouri House and Senate, but the strength of their numbers could determine how much they can accomplish.

Half of the 34 Senate seats and all 163 House seats are up for election Tuesday.

Top Missouri Democrats are continuing to pump money into state campaigns as the Nov. 4 election approaches.

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — The tally keeps rising on U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill's contributions to the Missouri Democratic State Committee.

Online campaign finance records show McCaskill gave $50,000 to the party last Friday — two days after giving an identically sized check.

Missouri Democrats have re-elected Jackson County Executive Mike Sanders as chairman of the state party.

Sanders initially became party chairman in November 2011. The state party said Monday he was re-elected during a leadership vote Saturday.

Democrats also elected St. Louis Comptroller Darlene Green as vice chairwoman and Kansas City School Board chairman Airick West as party treasurer.

Missouri Sen. Claire McCaskill, one of the most vulnerable Democrats up for re-election in 2012, says she will skip the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, N.C.
