Farmers put aside differences for farm bill, to no avail

The farm bill expired at the end of September and lawmakers didn’t pass a new one, thanks largely to election-year politics. Despite the partisan bickering in Washington, though, many in farm country are working together to keep their concerns on the front burner.

U.S. Capitol Police investigating reported threat on Akin, Huckabee pledges support

U.S. Capitol Police are investigating a reported threat against U.S. Representative Todd Akin, the U.S. Representative from Missouri who has been criticized for comments he made recently about rape.

A police spokesperson says there is "an active, open investigation" into a reported threat against the Republican lawmaker. She added that she could not discuss details regarding security of members of Congress.

Elected officials talk farm policy on the campaign trail

Thirty-five farmers and agricultural workers applauded at the site of Missouri Sen. Claire McCaskill’s big blue RV pulling up to the back of AGRI Services on Wednesday. The campaign stop at the massive granary and fertilizer distributor on the banks of the Missouri River in Brunswick, Mo. is part of the Democratic incumbent senator’s "Fighting for our Farmers" project.

Members of Missouri’s GOP say private sector growth and working with Democrats across the political aisle are key focus points for Republican candidates this election year. More than 30 local Republicans gathered at a Columbia Hy-Vee Monday, where discussions at the Boone County Pachyderm Club focused on the state economy.

Cell phone tracking bill currently before Gov. Nixon

The bill before Nixon would require cell phone companies to provide police with the location of any customer who's been reported missing.

Among the more than 110 bills passed by Missouri lawmakers this year is one designed to help law enforcement officers track a missing person through the potential victim’s cell phone signal.
