Randolph County to vote on consolidation of courthouse offices

Randolph County Commissioners are preparing for an upcoming vote on a consolidation of two county courthouses. The commission’s plan is to merge all of the offices in both the Huntsville and Moberly Courthouses in a new structure that would be located in front of the Randolph County Justice Center.

Presiding Commissioner of Randolph County Susan Carter says that a main issue with both of the current courthouses is the lack of security.

Huntsville police chief found dead, foul play not ruled out

The president of the Missouri Federation of Police Chiefs has been found dead, and a coroner says the death was not due to natural causes.

KOMU-TV reports Huntsville Police Chief William "Buddy" Stuck was found dead shortly before 5:30 a.m. Wednesday at his home in the central Missouri town.

Stuck was 64 years old and had been in law enforcement for more than 25 years. Randolph County Coroner Gerald Luntsford says foul play has not been ruled out.

The Missouri Highway Patrol's Division of Drug and Crime Control is helping investigate. An autopsy is planned Friday.

Moberly school promotes healthy living through running

The students at Gratz-Brown Elementary School in Moberly get excited every Tuesday and Thursday when the final school bell rings. This is not because school is over for the day, but because Running Club is about to start. The Running Club was started by Principal Della Bell and is in its second year.

Prosecutor dismisses charge in 30 year old murder case

A former Missouri death row inmate says he can now try to put his life back together after a prosecutor dismissed a murder charge in the fatal stabbing of a fellow inmate 30 years ago.

Reggie Griffin says he has gotten married and landed a job in the year since he was released from prison while awaiting a new trial. The 53-year-old says he found out Friday that Randolph County prosecutor Mike Fusselmann was dropping the charge.

Outside firm finds deficiencies in Randolph County budget

An outside auditing firm has found deficiencies in the 2011 and 2012 Randolph County budgets. Casey-Beard-Boehmer PC conducted an audit released in September on behalf of the Missouri State Auditor’s Office.

Deputy State Auditor Harry Otto said he does not anticipate how the Missouri State Auditor’s Office will assess Randolph County until the full audit is completed despite the deficiencies found by the outside CPA firm.

Crop duster plane crashes in Randolph County

A crop duster plane has crashed in north-central Missouri, killing the pilot.

The Columbia Daily Tribune reports that the crash occurred Friday morning in Randolph County when the small plane crashed into a corn field north of Huntsville.

Randolph County Sheriff Mark Nichols says the victim's name hasn't been released.

Nichols says a witness told deputies the small plane appeared to have clipped a tree top before crashing.
