Grocery store bakeries must pay taxes on utilities

  Grocery store bakeries in Missouri must continue to pay tax on the utilities they use to warm their food.

The state Supreme Court rejected a request on Tuesday, March 11 for a sales tax refund on the electricity and natural gas used by the bakeries at 40 Schnucks grocery stores.

Schuncks seeks to dismiss credit card lawsuits

The parent company of the supermarket chain Schnucks wants a federal court to dismiss two lawsuits related to a security breach of customer credit and debit cards.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the two lawsuits seek class-action status. Schnucks said in dismissal motions that the plaintiffs didn't have standing to sue and couldn't prove they suffered any harm.

One suit was filed in U.S. District Court in Chicago, while the other in was filed U.S. District Court in St. Louis.

Schnucks customers dismayed by credit card breach

Many customers of the Schnucks grocery chain are upset about the credit card fraud that has victimized dozens of people. Investigators told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that they continue to receive complaints from Schnucks customers.

It still isn't clear how the security breach occurred. For now, investigators are telling people who shop at Schnucks to pay with cash or checks.
