Missouri scholarship 'A-plus' program opening up to immigrant students

The Missouri Department of Higher Education is opening up a community college scholarship program to young adults who were brought to the United States illegally as children.

That means students who qualify for the program, called Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, will be able to trade tutoring hours for two years of tuition reimbursement through the A+ Scholarship Program. 

The deferred action program is tied to an Obama administration initiative that started in 2012.

MU receives gift for veterans' scholarships

The University of Missouri plans to use a $1 million gift to fund academic scholarships for military veterans.

The university announced Wednesday that it received the estate commitment from donors who wanted to remain anonymous. The donors did not attend the university but want the gift to honor Col. Dwight Schannep, a native of Versailles who fought in World War II for almost the entire conflict. Schannep died in a military plane crash shortly after the war.

Northwest Missouri State receives $1.25M donation

Northwest Missouri State University has received a $1.25 million gift from an anonymous donor.

The St. Joseph News-Press reports (http://bit.ly/19K3xKq ) university president John Jasinski announced the gift Wednesday. He says the money is for academic enhancements at the Maryville school and came from an anonymous donor who died recently.

A portion of the gift will also increase another endowment for scholarships for students during the 2014-15 academic year.

Stephens College selling properties to Hagan Scholarship Foundation

Stephens College announced Monday that it will sell properties to the Hagan Scholarship Foundation. Missouri businessman Dan Hagan started the foundation in 2009 to help students from rural counties.
