Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon says continued revenue growth means he can release an additional $67 million he initially restricted for this year's budget.


A measure that would block immigrants who are illegally in the U.S. from receiving money under Missouri's A+ scholarship program is headed to Gov. Jay Nixon's desk.

The Missouri House gave final approval Tuesday, 108-38, to the bill supporters say is meant to limit the number of people receiving scholarships in order to preserve them for Missouri residents.

2013 has been the third year for a nursing grant program -- aimed to assist college and university nursing programs in Missouri.


The University of Missouri's flagship campus is sweetening the pot for high academic achievers.

The university announced a new $6,500 scholarship Friday as well as increases to two existing grants that reward academic excellence. The Columbia school calls the changes its most significant scholarship increases in two decades.

The new Chancellor's Award will go to Missouri residents who graduate in the top 10 percent of their class from an accredited high school and have a composite ACT score of 31 or higher.

Missouri lawmakers have approved legislation that would require education officials to seek grants and donations to help children with special needs such as autism.

Financial resources could be devoted to scholarships or clinical trials for behavioral interventions. Scholarships could be used to help students attend a public school outside the student's home district or a private school.

In a press release Friday, the University of Missouri Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced it’s secured a pledge of $6.4 million over the next ten years toward its Tiger Scholarship fund. The donors asked to remain anonymous.
