With the deadline to veto, sign or abstain just one month away, some Kansas City officials are speaking out about the controversial “stand your ground” bill. Mayor Sly James, Police Chief Darryl Forté and Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker sent Governor Jay Nixon a letter on Tuesday calling for him to veto SB656.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The mayors of Kansas City and San Francisco have a bet riding on the outcome of the World Series.

If the Royals take the crown, San Francisco Mayor Edwin Lee will travel to Kansas City to read to students. If the Giants prevail, Kansas City Mayor Sly James will serve meals to the homeless in San Francisco and sing with a church musical group.

The mayors of St. Louis and Kansas City traveled to the the Missouri Capitol Monday to speak out against legislation to nullify federal gun laws within the Show-Me State.

St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay, a Democrat, calls the legislation  "absurd, embarrassing and reckless."

Supporters of creating a so-called “Angel Investment” tax credit in Missouri testified in favor of legislation Wednesday before a State Senate committee.


Senate Bill 91 would provide incentives to wealthy investors, dubbed “Angels,” who are looking for start-up opportunities, preferably in high-tech and Internet-based businesses.  Kansas City Mayor Sly James was one of several witnesses hoping to persuade committee members to approve the bill.
