Governor's budget withholdings felt by higher education

UM system spokesperson says "every dollar is important" when it comes to meeting the university's mission.

Governor Jay Nixon’s withholdings announced Friday are expected to be felt by Missouri’s higher-education institutions. Nixon announced the removal of $9 million from the budgets of Missouri’s public colleges and universities, effective July 1st. It’s part of $15 million withheld from a budget Nixon says is $50 million out of balance.

University of Missouri Press to be eliminated

The University of Missouri Press will close. That’s according to a press release issued today by the University of Missouri system. The UM system provides the University of Missouri Press with a $400,000 yearly subsidy, and according to the press release, the Press has been unable to operate without a deficit in recent years.
