MU Students could be paying more out of pocket for upkeep of student life as soon as fall 2017. The student services enhancement fee is a referendum to current MU student activity fees up for vote in March. It aims to improve MU’s campus community and facilities by putting funds into needed areas of improvement and maintenance.

The areas the money will go to is based on a 2016 satisfaction survey conducted by the Division of Student Affairs.

Co-directors will be assistant history professor C. Harrison Kim and assistant political science professor Sheena Greitens, who is Gov. Eric Greitens' wife.

The Columbia Daily Tribune reports the institute will foster research on South and North Korea. Kim says the university has a long history of academic research on Korea but faculty members hadn't come together to establish an institute.

Mumps have been reported at another Missouri university.

The number of confirmed mumps cases at the University of Missouri is growing amid a national rise in cases.

The university plans to provide an update each Wednesday. As of Nov. 9, the university had recorded 17 cases since the beginning of the fall semester. The school says all the students received the required two doses of a vaccine that protects against mumps, as well as measles and rubella.

Mumps is a viral infection that causes swelling in the salivary glands and cheeks. Anyone with symptoms is asked to stay at home.

A University of Missouri-Columbia crisis center received nearly 100 reports of campus sex assaults last year, but only two students were punished for such offenses in 2012, a newspaper investigation has found.

The university announced a new $6,500 scholarship Friday as well as increases to two existing grants that reward academic excellence. The Columbia school calls the changes its most significant scholarship increases in two decades.

The new Chancellor's Award will go to Missouri residents who graduate in the top 10 percent of their class from an accredited high school and have a composite ACT score of 31 or higher.

Public colleges in Missouri and Kansas say a recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling on affirmative action won't affect how they recruit minority students.

Officials at Missouri-Kansas City, The University of Missouri in Columbia, Kansas and Kansas State all say race plays no role in their admission standards.

The Supreme Court ruling in June didn't forbid considering race in admission but said schools must prove there are "no race-neutral alternatives" to achieve diversity on campus.
