Higher ed dept: Mo. college costs trend lower compared to rest of U.S.

Speaking on KBIA’s Intersection earlier this week, Deputy Commissioner for the Missouri Department of Higher Education Paul Wagner said that Missouri has been a national leader in keeping college tuition down. He said that tuition increases at public four year institutions in the state were the lowest in the country over the last three years. That statistic comes from a College Board Report released earlier this month. Wagner points to two factors that have helped limit tuition increases.

MU group plans celebration of University of Missouri Press, amidst planned changes

Classes for the fall semester at MU begin today, and as students return to school a campus group fighting plans to dramatically revamp the University of Missouri Press is holding a public celebration of the academic publishing house.

The Coalition to Save the University of Missouri Press opposes system President Tim Wolfe's decision to fire the press's 10 employees. The university’s plans for the press include a digital-driven alternative overseen by the editor of the Missouri Review literary journal.

MU faculty and colleagues vow to keep fighting for UM Press

KSU Professor Donna Potts and MU Professor Stephen Montgomery-Smith led faculty members and colleagues in a discussion about the future of the UM Press, Tuesday, July 24, 2012.

A group of MU faculty and colleagues concerned about the University of Missouri’s decision to close the University of Missouri Press have outlined a a set of goals that they’d like to see regarding the Press going forward, and loosely agreed to attempt to create a resolution regarding the Press through MU’s faculty council. Organizers of the meeting also say they have a list of violations they believe UM administrators have committed in its dealings with the Press and its staff.

MU announces "re-imagined" University of Missouri Press

The University of Missouri System announced in May it would be eliminating the University of Missouri Press, and that process officially started July 1st. Today, the University of Missouri-Columbia campus issued the press release below, announcing a new model to serve similar goals of the ill-fated Press.
