The U.S. House of Representatives has passed its version of the farm bill, a version that excludes funding for nutrition assistance programs nationwide.  But most analysts believe the Democrat-controlled Senate won’t approve a version that does not include funding for programs like food stamps.

Members of Missouri and Illinois' Congressional delegations are weighing in on the U.S. House version of the Farm Bill, which could be voted on before week's end.

Illinois Republican Rodney Davis told reporters today via conference call that the bill is a big improvement over the version passed by the Democrat-controlled U.S. Senate.

Before taking the stage, the 12 candidates worked the room, grinning from ear-to-ear, shaking hands and making small talk. About 300 people filled the Concourse building, but the candidates honed in on those wearing red, white and blue ribbons.

In Jefferson City, US Representative Blaine Luetkemeyer celebrated his re-election, as he received just under 70% of the popular vote in the 3rd Congressional District. He says the toughest part of this election was getting his name out in the new part of his district.

“You are never sure. You always come in with some anticipation. But if you do your work and you walk in tonight, you feel pretty comfortable because you know where you are gonna be. I have a good sense from the standpoint that I go around my district and I meet with people every day,” Luetkemeyer said.
