Repairs interrupt Amtrak runs in Missouri

  Damage to railroad tracks caused by last week's flash flooding in west-central Missouri is forcing changes in Amtrak passenger service.

The Missouri Department of Transportation says that some passengers on Amtrak's Missouri River Runner between Kansas City and St. Louis will travel by bus instead of train this week.

Heavy rain last Thursday damaged a section of track east of Warrensburg. Union Pacific is doing repairs that require afternoon closings through Friday.

Former suspect in Warrensburg slaying returns home to Saudi Arabia

A former University of Central Missouri student from Saudi Arabia who was accused of paying his roommate to kill a Warrensburg bar owner has left the country nearly three weeks after charges were dismissed.

Ziyad Abid was held without bond for 11 months in connection with the Sept. 1 slaying of Blaine Whitworth. Johnson County prosecutor Lynn Stoppy dropped the charges August 2nd, saying there wasn't enough evidence to prosecute him.

Grand jury indicts Saudi student on murder charge

A Missouri grand jury has handed down a new indictment charging a former University of Central Missouri student from Saudi Arabia in the death of a Warrensburg bar owner.

The indictment filed Friday in Johnson County charges 24-year-old Ziyad Abid with first-degree murder and armed criminal action. He was arrested in September after his roommate, Reginald Singletary Jr., told investigators Abid had paid him to kill bar owner Blaine Whitworth.

Obama talks economy, education at University of Central Missouri

The President discussed an American economy that's turning around, comparing where the country was five years ago to today. Obama says the basic American bargain of hard work paying off is alive again because private sector job growth is at its strongest since 1999, healthcare costs are shrinking, and the U.S. is becoming self-sufficient when it comes to energy use.

Obama praises Missouri Innovation Campus program

In his speech in Warrensburg, President Barack Obama praised a Missouri program that allows selected high school students to graduate from college early and gain work experience as they do so. 

“I want other colleges to take a look at what's being done here,” Obama said.

Nixon, Obama to travel to Warrensburg

Gov. Jay Nixon is joining President Barack Obama during the president's upcoming visit to the University of Central Missouri.

Obama is traveling Wednesday to the Warrensburg school and to Galesburg, Ill., to make his case for spending on infrastructure and for universal pre-school programs. The president is also expected to highlight the economic benefits of overhauling immigration laws.

Court still not setting bond for Saudi national charged in 2012 Warrensburg murder

A Missouri appeals court has rejected a motion seeking the release of a Saudi national being held without bond on a first-degree murder charge.

One day after Circuit Court Judge Michael Wagner issued an order denying bond for 24-year-old Ziyad Abid, the Missouri Court of Appeals on Tuesday dismissed a defense motion seeking Abid's release. Abid is accused of paying his roommate to kill Warrensburg bar owner Blaine Whitworth on September 1st.
