Missouri Farm Bureau members are reconsidering their endorsement of Republican Todd Akin for U.S. Senate


The Bureau’s FARM-PAC met earlier this month and endorsed Akin after hearing presentations from both he and Democratic incumbent Claire McCaskill.  Chris Fennewald, an editor for Missouri Farm Bureau publications, says the Bureau’s county leaders were polled this week, and the majority said that their endorsement of Akin should be reconsidered.

40,000 sign Planned Parenthood petition on Akin

U.S. House of Representatives

Supporters of Planned Parenthood have delivered petitions with 40,000 signatures to the office Republican Missouri Congressman Todd Akin, expressing anger and outrage over comments he made about rape.

About a dozen advocates and supporters of Planned Parenthood gathered at Akin's district congressional office in suburban St. Louis on Wednesday to deliver the petitions. Akin aide Steve Taylor collected them and invited five of the protesters in for a face-to-face meeting.

U.S. Capitol Police investigating reported threat on Akin, Huckabee pledges support

U.S. Capitol Police are investigating a reported threat against U.S. Representative Todd Akin, the U.S. Representative from Missouri who has been criticized for comments he made recently about rape.

A police spokesperson says there is "an active, open investigation" into a reported threat against the Republican lawmaker. She added that she could not discuss details regarding security of members of Congress.

Obama mocks Akin, Missouri GOP candidates remain quiet

President Barack Obama is mocking Senate candidate Todd Akin of Missouri for his remarks about a woman's body being able to avoid pregnancy during what Akin called a "legitimate rape."

Obama told a group of donors in New York that the Missouri congressman "somehow missed science class" even though he sits on the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology.

Among the few Republicans who have remained quiet Akin's comments are the Missouri GOP candidates for top state offices.
