Airport Adds Second Security Line; City to Host Monthly Airport Chats

A second security line has been established at Columbia Regional Airport to accommodate growing numbers of passengers.

The Transportation Security Administration began operating the second screening station on Thursday. City Community Relations Director Steven Sapp said in a news release that passenger loads at the airport have increased by 10 times in the past 10 years.

Long lines at the single security station were particularly problematic in the early morning, when four flights depart the airport in less than an hour.

Sapp also announced Thursday that the city will begin hosting monthly coffee chats that will allow the public to gather and ask questions about the airport. Economic Development Director Stacey Button, Airport Manager Michael Parks and other staff members will attend the talks, which will be held from 8 to 9 a.m. the third Thursday of every month at the Walton Building, 300 S. Providence Road.

The first coffee chat is scheduled for Aug. 16.
