Boone County Clerk Taylor Burks announced new online services that will go live on Friday on the Boone County website.
Citizens will be able to register to vote, change addresses and request an absentee ballot entirely within the website, according to a news release.
Previously, residents had to print the voter registration or absentee ballot request forms and psychically sign the paperwork before mailing or faxing the forms County Clerk's office. The new functions will allow voters to sign their forms and submit them on a touchscreen device, which will also save the office the added step of printing and scanning.
"This saves time and paper, and speeds up our workflow in the Clerk's office," Burks said in the release.
Burks also said the website will have a more modern look and will be easier to navigate after the redesign, according to the release.
In addition, the Clerk's office is developing a streamlined data transfer system with the Secretary of State's system, which Burks said will save Missouri nearly $80,000 annually. The electronic data interface between the county and the state can help reduce unnecessary cybersecurity risk to voter data. A third-party vendor has been processing the county's weekly transmission of voter registration data for the past twelve years, according to the release.
