Boonville Organizations Seeking City Money May Have Stricter Guidelines

Boonville City Council members work toward tightening up the way organizations receive city funding.

By Courtney Tezeno (Columbia, Mo.)

City officials have raised questions about how the city should distribute money to local organizations and whether the current procedure is effective. Second ward councilmember Noah Heaton said the focus should be on the greater good of the community.

“I don’t feel that we should be in the business of giving out money. Again like I just reiterated, I think the money that is in the city’s coffers is for the benefit of all citizens of Boonville. ”

Heaton said more local organizations should organize fundraisers so they can rely less on city funding. A committee is currently working on improving the application process.
