Centro Latino promotes healthy food choice for children this summer

The Columbia group Centro Latino is working this summer to promote healthy choices for children.

The group’s program Promotoras de Salud provides free health check ups, obesity education and diabetes prevention along with other health-related information. Boone Hospital nurse Marilyn Benitez is doing service hours with Centro Latino this summer. She will be working closely with the Promotoras de Salud program--“Which is promoting health to children," says Benitez, "through nutrition and through exercise and activities, so that’s what we are going to be organizing.”

Centro Latino has other programs that also have these types of goals. Another example is Kids in the Kitchen which helps teach children the right foods to eat and easy ways to make healthy decisions.
