Foley, MUPD address Yik Yak Threat

A University of Missouri student is accused of a campus threat posted on social media.

The statement released by Chancellor Hank Foley said MUPD were alerted Monday about a post on Yik Yak that was perceived as a threat to campus security. The Columbia Daily Tribune reports MU Freshman Nathan Benz was arrested later that Monday, and was later released on $4,500 bond. Formal charges had not been filed by midday Tuesday.

MUPD have not disclosed details of the arrest, but Foley said in his statement that the threat was not believed to be credible.

This threat comes nearly a month after threatening posts were made on Yik Yak amidst campus turmoil following the resignation of UM System President Tim Wolfe. On November 11, Hunter M. Park, a 19-year-old sophomore at Missouri University of Science and Technology, was charged with a felony count of making terrorist threats after posting that he would shoot every black person he saw on the Columbia campus. Northwest Missouri State University student Connor B. Stottlemyre was also charged on November 11 for making terrorist threats.
