The University of Missouri has re-established the position of executive vice chancellor for health affairs.

In an email sent out to staff and students, the Office of the Chancellor announced today that Dr. Hal Williamson would return to the university as the Interim Executive Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs. In the past, the Executive Vice Chancellor oversaw the health system, including the Schools of Health Professions, Medicine and Nursing, as well as the clinical operations of MU Health Care’s five hospitals.

Williamson’s first stint as the Executive vice chancellor for health affairs started in 2008 and lasted until June of this year, when he retired from the position. The position was not filled after Williamson left.

After Williamson’s departure, Huron Consulting of Chicago reviewed the organizational structure of the MU Health System, and recommended that the university bring the position back. The Columbia Missourian reported in September that former Chancellor R. Bowen Loftin had accepted that recommendation.
