The Nuclear Regulatory Commission held a pair of public meetings on Wednesday, March 14, 2012, to get feedback on the license renewal for the Callaway County nuclear reactor.

10,000 gallons of hog waste from a Callaway County hog farm flowed Monday into a waterway that is a part of Millers Creek.

The waste came from the hog feeding facility, Pork Master Inc., and flowed into the Mark Twain National Forest.

Pork Master Inc. is under a discharge permit issued by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources (DNR), why the spill is a violation of the permit, Spokeswoman Gena Terlizzi says.

"By this requirement they cannot discharge waste. In this case the waste was discharged into a nearby body of water – a tributary that flows into Millers Creek. For the protection of the environment and the protection of the water they can't discharge waste."

DNR are investigating the case now and within a week they will say if there is there is a potential for enforcement activities for the facility.
