The City Council of Jefferson City unanimously approved six ordinances Monday that set the framework for $6.2 million in renovations to the city's airport.
The city will secure $6.1 million in funding for a runway and taxiway improvement project through the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission and will match 6 percent of the total cost, approximately $400 thousand, through sales tax revenues.
The project will begin next March or April and is expected to be completed by the end of next year.
Jefferson City Council also approved a resolution to reinforce the city's ability to uphold city code and deal with vacant properties.
Councilman Bob Scrivner sponsored the resolution and says it was intended to prevent future property vacancies by encouraging city officials to charge repeat offenders of public nuisance laws.
Jefferson City officials have been working to prevent and reduce the number of abandoned properties for years.
Since 2007, at least 110 buildings have been identified as vacant by the city’s abandoned buildings ordinance.
