Mark Jones plans files for vacant fifth ward position

A second person will be filing for the vacant Ward 5 position on the Columbia City Council.

Mark Jones announced Tuesday that he will be filing for this position during the special election in February. Jones serves on the Boone County Community Services Advisory Commission and is a staff member at the Missouri national Education Association.

“What we want to work on is ensuring that we are dealing with traffic congestion that we continue to make Columbia a place where people want to bring and create small businesses and to keep the flavor of the community and the nature of the community one where it still remains one of the best places Missouri to live if not the country,” Jones says.

Susan Burns is the only other person running for this position. The position has been vacant since Helen Anthony resigned in October to spend more time with family. The special election will be held on February 5.
