Missouri Department of Revenue is looking to add Second DMV

The Missouri Department of Revenue is looking to add a second DMV in Columbia. Big cities like St. Louis, Kansas City, and Springfield all currently have multiple locations to best serve its citizens.

From 2000-2013, Columbia has seen its population increase from about 85,000 to 115,000. The DMV has yet to adapt to this steady increase. Michelle Gleba is the Director of Communications at the Missouri Department of Revenue. Gleba says this is something her department has been thinking about for a while.

The Columbia license office has the highest amount of transactions. It also generates the most in processing fees out of all of our 178 license offices throughout the state.”

The current license office off of Vandiver Drive generates more total transactions and processing fees than any other license office in Missouri. Last year it dealt with 211,741 total transactions and collected $710,928 in processing fees. To put those numbers in context, Boonville’s total transactions didn’t even reach 50,000.

If a contractor is agreed upon and Columbia moves forward with a second license office, the Department of Revenue has two requirements; the office remains in city limits and is at least two miles away from the current license office.
