The head of the Missouri State Highway Patrol says law officers are "planning for the worst" in anticipation of a grand jury decision on whether to indict a white police officer who shot a black 18-year-old.
Col. Ron Replogle said Friday that he's "praying for the best" but preparing to respond to massive protests and potential violence if grand jurors decide not to indict Ferguson Police Officer Darren Wilson for the Aug. 9 shooting of Michael Brown.
Replogle says patrol officers are meeting with St. Louis area police and have been undergoing training on dealing with civil unrest. He says the agency has ordered additional shields for troopers and will limit vacation time as a grand jury decision nears so that troopers can respond to problems anywhere.
