Changes could be made in Missouri courts due to a new study from the Missouri Supreme Court.

The goal of the study is to improve the practices and procedures of municipal courts throughout Missouri. The state Supreme Court is taking suggestions from the public and attorneys, which will be reviewed to determine what the appropriate next step will be.

Beth Riggert, Communications Council for the Supreme Court of Missouri, said all recommendations are being looked at.

“The Court is interested to hear what experiences citizens might have had in the various municipal court divisions around the state, whether they be good or bad.” Riggert said. “Or other suggestions the public might have to improve the experiences that they’ve had in the municipal court divisions.”

Riggert said the state Supreme Court will not reveal what suggestions they have received until they have been finalized and decided which ones will be acted upon.

“The court is going to take the time necessary to review and study all the suggestions that have been made very carefully,” Riggert said. “and to determine, then, what action should be taken next.”

Aside from the suggestions, the court has already implemented some changes to rules affecting the municipal court divisions. The state Supreme Court has also temporarily assigned a state appellate court judge to take over hearing case in the Ferguson municipal courts.

All changes regarding the municipal courts will be announced online once they have been reviewed.
