Moberly airport rennovations completed

New renovations to the Moberly’s Omar Bradley Airport are complete and will be revealed to the community tonight.

The airport was built in 1940 and has recently been showing its age. Phase one of the renovations added a parallel taxi way so the airport can handle jet traffic during the night and in bad weather situations. The one million dollar project replaced the existing asphalt terminal pad with concrete to better support the newer planes using the facility. Airport manager Tom Sanders says there is still more work to be done.

“Our next phase is to redo the cross pin runway and then also to add additional tee-hangars. Right now we’re getting several requests for inside storage of planes from around the mid Missouri and we just don’t have any places available for storage,” Sanders said.

Sanders says he hopes once the next phase of renovations are finished the city will see more traffic in and out of the airport. The Moberly Area Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting ceremony and open house Tuesday.
