MoDOT to close Bagnell Dam for repairs next week

Provided by the Missouri Department of Transportation

The Missouri Department of Transportation will close Bagnell Dam at Lake of the Ozarks to fix erosion damage next week. Workers will interrupt the traffic on the dam between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. from April 6 thru April 10.   MoDOT estimates the improvements will cost around $16 thousand.

Bob Lynch, Area Engineer, said the repairs will address the concrete of the dam.

“The main issue is the damage to the light support base for the light pole along the dam. A large chunk of it is pulled off so we want to make sure there is no further deterioration in that area,” Lynch said.

According to Lynch, maintenance will also include working on the joints along with the bridge deck across the dam and flushing the bridge - cleaning out all the soil chemicals that were applied during the winter.

Dave Van Dee, City of Lake Ozark Administrator, said the improvements are part of the repair work that MoDOT annually does on the surface of the roadway across the dam.

“It’s our off-season. Our traffic volumes are low right now. This is the best time for them to do maintenance. It doesn’t have as much as an impact as it would in June or July, when we’re in our peak season,” Van Dee said.

All traffic will be detoured to Highway 54 and route 242 during the repairs.
