The Community Health Center of Central Missouri has a new home after outgrowing its current location.

The facility on Truman Blvd is moving to 1511 Christy Drive out of a need for more space. The new location is about 10,000 square feet bigger than the current location.

Having more space is vital to accomplishing the center’s goals, CEO of CHCCM Jeff Davis said in a press release.

“Having outgrown our current location, our new facility will increase our capacity to provide access to quality health care for mid-Missouri families,” Davis said. “We are committed providing quality primary care, behavioral healthcare and oral healthcare services for medically underserved individuals in Central Missouri and this new facility will ensure we are best positioned to fulfill our mission.”

Communications Manager for the Jefferson City center Joe Miller said previous expansion efforts have only provided a temporary fix.

“We’ve remolded a few different times to meet our needs and demands. And each time we’ve remolded, we’ve been able to fill up that space,” Miller said. “Each time we bring in a new provider, their appointment blocks just keep getting filled up.”

Miller said the services in highest demand are dental and women’s health and a bigger facility would allow CHCCM to bring in more health care providers to meet those demands.

However, the new space isn’t ready yet due to renovations. Miller said the building will be gutted for a complete redesign. The construction process could take around eight to 12 months.

Funding for the project comes partially from a federal Capital Improvement grant. The rest of the money will come from the sale of the current building that the Cole County Health Department has agreed to purchase. Cole County Health hopes to expand its services as well.

Miller said along with medical care, this move could increase community involvement.

“We want to become more of the community,” Miller said. “A lot of individuals unfortunately still don’t know what we do. We want to offer high quality services to anybody that walks through our door. We’re really hoping that with this move we can expand our services to those individuals.”

CHCCM also has locations in Linn, Fulton and California, Missouri.
