President Obama to visit Claycomo plant in Kansas City Friday
President Barack Obama is pressing his case in America's heartland that Congress mustn't jeopardize fragile economic progress with threats of a government shutdown.
Obama was traveling to an auto plant near Kansas City, Mo., on Friday. He'll tour the plant and argue that the U.S. economy is primed to thrive, if only Congress will let it.
At the same time, the House is preparing to approve a stopgap funding bill that would defund Obama's health care law. And Obama and Congress are also locked in a tug of war over raising the nation's borrowing limit.
The Ford Motor Co. plant Obama is touring once employed 4,500 workers but lost most of them amid the auto industry crisis. The plant has recovered many of those jobs, adding another 1,000 recently.
