Former Kansas City police Chief Darryl Forte is the new sheriff-elect of Jackson County, Missouri, and is faced with turning around a department lax in policy and procedure.

Segment 1: Jackson County's new sheriff says he's trying to make the department "an environment where it's not fear-based, it's respect-based."

When the previous sheriff of Jackson County resigned in the midst of a sex scandal, former Kansas City police Chief Darryl Forte was asked to serve as interim sheriff. On Nov. 6, he was selected by voters to fill the post for a full term. Forte told us of the policy and personnel changes he has made already, and what he's working to do for a department he says is dysfunctional.

Segment 2, beginning at 24:20: Whether it's the freshness of a prosecco from Italy or the classic champagne of France, there's a sparkling wine for every taste.

Doug Frost is one of four people in the world to hold the dual titles of master sommelier and master of wine. Today he explained why sparkling wines are the most "technical" wine in the world to produce, what makes those wonderful bubbles, and how you can find excellent sparkling wines produced in the Midwest. The wines sampled during the program were Bisol Jeio Prosecco Brut, Clavelin Crémant du Jura Brut-Comté Chardonnay Tête de Cuvée and Taittinger Champagne Brut La Francaise.

Doug Frost is the featured guest at "Operation Uncorked" on Thursday, Dec. 6, 6:30 p.m. at the National World War I Museum and Memorial, 2 Memorial Drive, Kansas City, Missouri, 64108.  Tickets are $35 for members, $50 for non-members.

Doug Frost will be in conversation with Vickie Rehm, author of "The Wine Table" on Wendesday, Dec. 12, 6:00 p.m. at the 1900 Building, 1900 Shawnee Mission Parkway, Mission Woods, Kansas, 66205. Registration is required due to limited seating.
