A Missouri Newspaper has brought home the Pulitzer Prize for Breaking News Photography.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch photo staff was honored Monday for its coverage of the protests that followed the shooting death of Michael brown.
The paper’s award cited the power of the images in conveying the “despair and anger” in Ferguson.
It’s the 18th Prize the paper has won since it was founded in 1878 by Joseph Pulitzer himself.
In a sign of the timeliness of the award; Sunday a tree planted in Brown’s honor in Ferguson was found cut down.
The sapling was chopped off at the trunk and concrete plaques placed at their bases were stolen.
The tree was planted in January, after being donated by the Black Caucus of the American Library Association.
