Columbia Regional Airport adds additional flight

  Columbia Regional Airport is adding a new flight. The airport announced a second route to Chicago O’Hare starting Wednesday, April 2. American Airlines will provide a 6 a.m. departure from Columbia Regional, as well as a return flight that would arrive at 7:45 p.m.

American Airlines to add flight to Columbia Regional Airport

Columbia Regional Airport and American Airlines announced Wednesday they are adding another daily nonstop flight between Columbia Regional Airport and Chicago O’Hare.

The new flights will begin on April 2. American Flight 3376 will take off in Columbia at 6:00 a.m. and arrive in Chicago at 7:05 a.m. The returning flight 3737 will head out of Chicago at 6:35 p.m. and return to Columbia at 7:45 p.m.

No payout from airline revenue guarantee fund for July

The City of Columbia announced today that it did not have to use money from the Air Service Revenue Guarantee fund to pay Ameircan Airlines for July 2013. This is the fifth consecutive month in the past six where the city didn’t have to use the funds.  

The guarantee fund comes from several private businesses and government entities in mid-Missouri.

American Airlines began service from Columbia in February, with flights to Dallas and Chicago.

No Columbia airline revenue guarantee payout for April

The City of Columbia announced today that no money will come out of the Air Service Revenue Guarantee fund for the month of April. This is the second month in a row which American Airlines did not require a payment from the fund.

Columbia airline guarantee fund makes first payout

The city of Columbia paid more than $22,000 to American Airlines after the airline's first two weeks at the city's airport.

The city guaranteed revenue to the airline when it began service at the Columbia Regional Airport Feb. 14.

City officials say they were pleased with American's numbers during the first two weeks but the payout was necessary partly because the city was hit by two heavy snowstorms in February.

Federal sequestration cuts will shut down Columbia's airport control tower

On Friday, the Columbia Regional Airport received notice that its control tower was among 149 around the country[PDF] that would close as a result of federal sequestration cuts. The closure is expected to take place at some point between April 7 and May 7.

It's official: Columbia announces agreement with American Airlines

The Columbia City Council held a special meeting Friday to officially introduce a potential agreement with American Airlines. The meeting was adjourned after four minutes, but the short meeting could expedite the process of Columbia Regional Airport beginning to offer flights to Chicago and Dallas. Mayor Bob McDavid says these flights would benefit MU and businesses in Columbia.

"I like to say that on the coast we’re known as ‘fly over country,'" McDavid said. "Well we want to be known as ‘fly into country.’”
