The suspect in the shooting of a suburban St. Louis police officer made his first court appearance Monday morning as the officer remained hospitalized.

Antonio Taylor was arraigned on charges of assault of a police officer, armed criminal action and possessing a firearm as a felon. He's accused of ambushing Ballwin police officer Michael Flamion during a traffic stop on Friday.

St. Louis Police Chief Sam Dotson says all officers also must wear bullet-resistant vests when on duty outside of police stations. The directive applies to St. Louis police officers, park rangers and marshals.
