GRO shuttles voters to polls

Mary Hussmann, with the organization Grass Roots Organizing, volunteered as a driver to help get voters to the polls today, Tuesday, April 2, 2013.

Grass Roots Organizing, a non-profit organization also known as GRO, is providing free rides for voters to the polls today.

GRO volunteers hand out flyers around town in the days leading up to the elections so people are aware that the organization is willing to transport voters to the polls.

Mary Hussmann, a GRO organizer, volunteered to drive people to the polls today and says the idea is to give everyone a chance to vote.

Grass Roots Organizing and the Community, Faith, and Labor Groups of Mid-Missouri added a political twist to holiday caroling in Columbia Monday. Together they caroled outside the headquarters of several Missouri politicians urging them to protect Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security as well as raise taxes for the wealthy. Concerned citizens and housing residents in Columbia gathered Wednesday night, July 25, to share concerns about the Columbia Housing Authority's strategic plan.

Columbia public housing residents are raising concerns about the Columbia Housing Authority’s plan to renovate current housing and add more units as part of its long-term strategic plan.

At a meeting Wednesday night hosted by Grass Roots Organizing, Columbia Public Housing CEO Phil Steinhaus discussed possible renovations to current public housing units as part of its plan.
