Lawmakers proposing gun control legislation could end up in prison under a bill introduced by a Missouri House Republican.
Rep. Mike Leara, of St. Louis County, said Tuesday that he has no illusions that his bill actually will pass and become law.
Gun control is going to be at the top of President Obama’s agenda this year, and Missouri’s US Senators are divided on what to do about it.

Saying that last week's mass shooting at an elementary school in Newtown, Conn., could have been prevented or stopped if there had been armed, trained security personnel on site, officials of the National Rifle Association on Friday called for Congress to appropriate funds to put police officers in every American school.
After the mass shootings in Auoroa, Colo., last summer, the media were flush with articles noting huge runs on guns and spikes in the numbers of background checks associated with firearm purchases.
