MoDot Looks to Sell Old, Historic Bridges

The department of transportation is selling the bridge that crosses the Bourbeuse River on Route B in Phelps County. The bridge was built in 1934 and has historic value, according to MoDot. For this reason, MoDot must offer the bridge for sale before demolishing it.

The Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge is scheduled to open early next month.

The new bridge will carry Interstate 70 over the Mississippi River. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports the four-lane, cable-stayed bridge and associated highway projects are being funded with a combination of Missouri, Illinois and federal money.

A new railroad bridge over the Osage River between St. Louis and Jefferson City is now open for both passenger and freight train use.

The new bridge cost $28 million, with most of the funds coming from the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.  Federal Railroad Administrator Joe Szabo says the project came in under budget and ahead of schedule.

The head of the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission has unveiled a plan for funding the state’s aging highways and bridges.
